Home prices still on a slow track upward, Case-Shiller report shows

Slowly but steadily, home prices in South Florida continued to rise in July, and once again performed above the national average, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Index.

Prices for homes in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties were up 7 percent in July year-over-year and up 0.4 percent month-over-month over June’s result, the closely watched economic measure released on Tuesday found.

Winter-Weary Home Buyers Heading to Florida

Home sales in the Sunshine State were up 19.6% in June compared with a year ago. In terms of real estate, the winter of 2014-15 may be the best thing that ever happened…to Florida.

The Sunshine State is No. 2, behind California, in jumbo volume for both primary and secondary homes at Quicken Loans, says Bill Banfield, vice president at Quicken, one of the country’s largest jumbo lenders. “When you have got people who get cold in the wintertime, they start thinking about places they would rather be. And that places Florida at the top of the list,” he says.

Tampa area housing sales jump 21 percent from last year

Statewide, the median sale price was $176,000, a 3.5 percent increase over the previous year.

“Florida’s housing market hit a milestone in November. For three years now — 36 months in a row — statewide median sales prices rose year over year for both single family and townhouse-condo properties,” said 2014 Florida Realtors President Sherri Meadows.
